4 Ways to Give Back to the Denver Community this Holiday Season

Giving back to the community is a great way to spread some cheer during the holiday season, especially to those that are undergoing challenging times.

Here are some of our favorite ways to get into the holiday spirit in the Denver Metro Area!

Food Bank of the Rockies

No one should go hungry during the most wonderful time of year. Donating canned goods and other non-perishable items to the largest private hunger relief program in Colorado–The Food Bank of the Rockies–is a great way to ensure everyone has a warm meal in their bellies. Founded in 1978, this non-profit provides food to over 400,000 people annually. They also distribute 131,000 meals each day through more than 500 hunger relief partner agencies and direct service programs in Colorado and Wyoming.

This December, $1 of monetary donations will equate to 8 meals for those in need.

If you’d like to take it a step further, the Food Bank of the Rockies is always looking for volunteers. Click here for more information on how you can get involved in the fight to end hunger in Colorado.

The RMLEFCU Mitten Tree Drive

Colorado winters are both breathtakingly beautiful and devastatingly cold. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to the proper winter clothing items. If you have gently used winter coats, mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves that are spending more and more time inside your closet as opposed to on your person, we strongly encourage you to consider donating to our Mitten Tree Drive.

Until the end of December, we will be distributing used winter apparel to those in need in our community. Stop by any RMLEFCU branch to drop off your donations!

The Colorado Pet Pantry

It’s no secret that Denver is an extremely pet-friendly city. We have several animal shelters, rescues, and organizations that actively assist pets in need. If you or your loved ones are animal lovers and want to lend a hand to Denver’s furry friends, the Colorado Pet Pantry may be just the organization for you.

Every dollar donated to the Colorado Pet Pantry is worth $5 in pet food. Each donation helps a pet stay with its family – keeping the dog or cat out of the shelter where it would need to be housed, fed, walked, cared for, and re-homed.

Shop with a Cop

We are big believers in strengthening the bond between LEOs and the neighborhoods they strive to protect. That’s why, for all of December, we will donate $25 to Shop with a Cop for each new RMLEFCU member. Shop with a Cop is a heart-warming program that pairs a local child in need with a police officer. Together, they purchase much needed clothing, school supplies, and holiday gifts for their loved ones.

Ring in the New Year Right

Even if you can only drop off a few cans at the Food Bank of the Rockies or a handful of mittens and hats to our Mitten Tree Drive, the little things matter. Spread some holiday warmth and cheer to those in our community that need it the most!
